In this keynote, Todd addresses the importance of China as an export destination for American agriculture and how China's emerging demographic and economic challenges may force American producers to look elsewhere. China's population is declining and experts project that China will lose somewhere between half to three quarters of her population by 2100. China is the number one, two or three market for 9 out the top 10 US ag export commodities.
In this presentation, Todd details the demographic and economic problems facing China and explains how those challenges are not isolated issues that only China is dealing with, but a sign of what's to come for much of the globe. He discusses the need for an industry dialogue around necessary adjustments based on these concerns and finishes up with why he remains optimistic about American agriculture despite the challenges.
This is an eye opening and for many, a shocking revelation and discusses important issues for the agriculture industry, but it's delivered in an entertaining and optimistic fashion. You'll leave this presentation more educated, motivated and inspired!

The global population has increased from less than 1 billion to 8 billion people in less than 200 years. Agriculture's ability to meet that demand is one of the greatest achievements in human history.
Understandably, feeding an increasing number of people has become a sort of mantra in agriculture circles...a source of pride and an underlying principle. Virtually all of the systems we've built are based on the assumption that the population will continue to grow.
This is, however, not going to happen. The population in key markets around the world is already declining and many more developed and some developing countries will be joining them soon. This will have massive and far reaching ramifications for the future of ag.
In this presentation, Todd explains the current situation, which countries and regions are growing, which are shrinking and how these patterns will develop over the coming decades. He also describes how these changes will impact agriculture and what changes will be necessary to adapt.
This presentation is an enlightening call to action for the industry, a warning about what happens if we don't do anything and an encouragement to make adjustments now because the longer we wait, the more painful the transition.

In this keynote address, Todd addresses one of the biggest challenges facing global agriculture...labor. Todd believes the labor shortages in the wake of the pandemic are not a short term event but a preview of the new reality businesses will be dealing with.
He discusses the nature of the challenge as well as solutions including automation, immigration, untapped sources of labor, work schedules, benefits and compensation.
None of these solutions alone will solve the problem. Employers will need to develop comprehensive and flexible strategies for addressing the issue. Todd taps into his global experience and strategic foresight training to take a glimpse into the future of ag labor.
Employers who take this journey with him and prepare for the future will find it easier to attract and retain top talent, not just people to do the job but the right people with the right skills to do the jobs that modern agriculture requires.
